NO. 22 - READ ABOUT AND EXPLORE VARIOUS WEB BASED COMMUNICATION TOOLS

Read about the web based tools on Instant messaging and VOIP. Launched the Google Talk client and signed in to Google talk where I invited a colleague to chat with me using Google contacts. This form of communication is too fiddly would prefer simple email or the phone where no sign-ins/passwords are necessary. I don't want to add the Google Talk Widget to my blog!

NO. 21 - FIND AND LISTEN TO A PODCAST OR TWO

Found a podcast on The ABC on news and current affairs, subscribed to it in my feed reader. Listened to a few other podcasts of interest also.

NO. 20 - WATCH YOUTUBE VIDEOS PEOPLE HAVE MADE ABOUT LIBRARIES

Had a look at YouTube and found some quite useful and some stupid videos about libraries and librarians. Thought this one was quite appropriate, have a look and a laugh.

No. 19 PUT A PHOTO OF YOUR PET??? ON THE WIKI

As I don't have a pet I chose a photo from my 'theme' which is an EAGLE from my pictures gallery. Logged into VU Wikibrary and checked out the Pet's page, some people have some beautiful pets I must say unless they are doing what I am doing?
I added my pet 'eagle' to the Pet's page.

No. 18 - Read about the Library 2.0 movement, etc

I read the articles about Library 2.0 from Wikipedia, the Encore reports and Ebscohost 2.0 interfaces and listened to a Talis podcast titled "Library Gang Podcast" about the current financial crisis and how it can effect Libraries --- very interesting!

NO. 17 - PLAY WITH DELICIOUS

Visited 'delicious' and typed in words for my main interest and was rewarded with many choice results. I selected one called "thewebguy" and was presented with a trail full of choice information on Australian shares and investments. I think 'delicious' has a lot of potential to cover all of your interests in one space and also for social bookmarking with others.

No. 15 - PLAY WITH GOOGLE BOOK SEARCH AND GOOGLE SCHOLAR

Located The Missing Manual by Sarah Milstein on Google Book Search and checked out the Table of Contents and some of the text and then had a play with other titles.

Next visited Google Scholar and searched for various titles held by VU Library, I was very impressed by the result. This is an excellent tool!

No. 14 - Play with Google Docs

I created a new document titled "Wedge-tailed Eagle (see below), with regard to competition it poses to desktop office suites such as Microsoft Office I think for some purposes it would be a good alternative, but I don't think Microsoft need worry.

WEDGE-TAILED EAGLE

With a wingspan of up to 2.74m, the Wedge-Tailed Eagle is the largest raptor in Australia. A lanky bird, it hunts by high soaring flight, circling up on thermal air currants for hundreds of meters and sailing out over the countryside, covering wide areas on upswept wings, its tail fanned and dianmond-shaped.

Earlier this century, when eagles were found on dead sheep and lambs, it was thought that they had killed them. Bounties were paid for their destruction. In one year in Queensland 10,000 bounties were paid and between 1927-1968 in Western Australia another 15,000. The practice has ceased since it has been realised that the eagles usually attack only poor, dying or dead lambs and have little effect on the sheep industry. Today they are protected in all states.
